Umhlanga is known for being one the KwaZulu Natal's most affluent areas, both residential and commercial, making it a popular area to live. The name Umhlanga means "place of reeds" in Zulu and is fitting given its beach access. Holidaymakers visit the area as it has an abundance of activities and holiday locations. It is located north of Durban CBD and the easy highways access makes for an easy commute to neighbouring areas such as Mount Edgecombe (West) and Durban North.
